The instrument is supported by a weighted and turned wooden stand and column. The height is adjustable using a thumb screw. The shape of the instrument is a trapezoid. On the front is an oval-shaped cut-out. On the back is a large rectangular window in front of which can slide cut-out pieces (the one in there is a square with a small needle in its center). On one side is a circular opening. On the other side are two square openings, in front of which cut-out pieces can slide (one has a small piece of glass). There would have been at least one prism inside the instrument.
